Farewell Colorado…
A stormy afternoon and access to wifi allow me to provide an update today.
When we last spoke, Brian, the boys and I were tucked into the secluded mountains of Colorado. Since then, we’ve traveled south over the McClure, Red Mountain, and Molas Passes. Spectacular views met narrow winding roads the likes of which we had never experienced.
We found ourselves just north of Durango, CO near the Durango Mountain Resort. We took the opportunity to visit Silverton, CO and the Old Hundred Gold Mine. Deke LOVED it and has decided he wants to work there as a tour guide 😉
We also met a friend for a delicious dinner in Durango and took the kids white water rafting on the Animas River, which snakes its way through the town. What are the chances that we would share a raft with another Anderson family from California? We did manage to find an awesome local joint with the best pizza we’ve eaten since leaving PA, The Olde Schoolhouse Cafe and Saloon.
Before we knew it, it was time to pack up the Subaru and head to our next destination… New Mexico. The drive through southern Colorado did not disappoint us. Rolling hills met green valleys, it was a surprising landscape and quite different than the jagged mountains we had become accustomed to.
My favorite view on the drive was Chimney Rock.
I can’t wait to update you on our adventures in New Mexico… In the meantime, much love to you, and especially to the Svonavec family, as they say their final goodbyes to my Aunt Amy who was taken from us many years too soon.
