Over 1800 Miles and Counting

Let’s see… Last post, we were just east of St. Louis on day one of our big huge adventure.

Allow me to get you caught up.

Thursday morning, we went into St. Louis to visit the Gateway Arch.

I wasn’t a fan of the tram ride, which was basically like stepping into a space pod, but it was worth it at the top.

Before we could turn around twice, we were back in the car heading west once again.

Eastern to central Kansas was the most scenic and beautiful state thus far. I know — I’m as surprised to be saying this as you are to be reading it! The miles were ticking off when we caught up with a ridiculous thunderstorm and had to pull over.

Rain, hail, lightning, wind… It was ALL there. I’ve never witnessed a storm like this. The radar was a full spectrum of colors, and I kept looking up in the sky for Dorothy’s house.

It was less than fun, to put it mildly, and we were relieved that the storm was short-lived and about 20 miles west, we saw sunshine and blue sky.

Friday morning brought us back into our car (which we now call our ‘mobile’ home), destination: Colorado.

Welcome to Colorado!

Welcome to Colorado!

Following an extra slow ride into the mountains with nearly all of Denver heading west on 70, we finally arrived in Dillon. Expecting to stay just one night in this little suburb of Breckinridge, we extended our stay and spent the weekend with friends who live there. Although we missed the fireworks, we appreciated comfy beds, home cooked food, a washing machine, and especially the kindness and generosity of friends.

Taking a suggestion from our local friends, Kate, Mark and Matthew, we took a little detour on our way out of town to visit the towns of Alma and FairPlay, CO.

Let me tell you, this area is right up our alley! Brian was ready to cancel the remainder of the trip and sign a lease on a little log cabin along the Platte River, but I insisted we carry on.

Our next stop was Glenwood Springs, CO. The drive through the canyon was breathtaking! The Cedar Lodge provided us with beds, a kitchen and even a grill that we took advantage of and made ourselves a really fancy dinner 😉

We’ll spend the remainder of the week at our friends’ Redstone Retreat outside of Carbondale. We are all looking forward to some rest, a lot of fishing, biking, hiking, and having a place to land for a few days.

Until next time…

Ha — you’re telling me! Sometimes I feel like I’m in a parallel Universe. And I am grateful every day for all of the inner work I’ve been doing over the past several years or else this would have been a total disaster!

    Go get it gang,
Make sure to visit Roaring Fork Brewing, and pick up some Aspen IPA’s. The best tortilla’s in town are at the Tortilleria La Roca. Enjoy
